C. BOOK SIGNINGS rarely sell many books. Those elaborate multi-city media blitz zombie producing tours usually only produce a profit for the publicity agents. Bookstores provide the venue; it is up to the author to provide the crowd.

“Never do an autographing,” says Terri Lonier of Portico Press. “Always offer a mini seminar.” An autograph party says “Come and appreciate me (and buy a book)”; a seminar says “Come and I will give you something free (information).” Always think of the benefit to the potential customer. D. GOOGLE SHOWS PEOPLE WHERE YOU LIVE (SCARY). Anyone can type in your telephone number at http://Google.com  and get a map to your home.

Go to Google and type in your number separated by hyphens. E.g., 000-000-0000. See the two map options. Yahoo and MapQuest.


Any person wishing to discover the physical location of a phone number, be it a home or business address, could use this feature to receive directions on how to get there from anywhere in the country.

Google has made available an option that will allow anyone to REMOVE
their telephone number from the database that is linked to the mapping
feature. First need to check if your number is listed. If the number appears in the mapping database, an icon resembling a telephone will appear next to the first or second entry on the results page. Clicking on this icon will take you to a page containing a description of the service, and a link to request your number be removed from the database. So far unlisted numbers and cell phone numbers do not show up.

A. RESPECT YOUR READER'S TIME.

Time is not always money. Today, most consumers have more money than time. Your reader wants your information but must fit it into a busy schedule.

Everyone is trying to save time. The need for speed has given rise to McDonalds, Fed Ex and Kinko’s. In fact, more food goes out the side window at McDonalds than through the front door. McDonalds is a “drive-through” restaurant. Diners not only want fast food, they do not have time to sit down at a table to eat it.

Many people save time by doing two or more things at once. You can see them on the freeway, driving, eating, talking on the phone, and combing their hair—all at the same time.

Research, compile the information, and condense it down to just the nuggets. Do your best for your reader by writing the solution to his or her challenges in as few words as possible.

Use brief wording and paragraphs. Your reader wants the information; he or she is not reading your nonfiction book to be diverted.
